Our take.
Tape to Tape remembers when sports games were about having fun rather than memorising a controller diagram. The hockey is fast, simple to pick up and great fun, with that “one more match” feel, win or lose!
Then it throws in a run-based campaign. Think FTL on ice: build your team, make questionable decisions, lose, and convince yourself the next attempt will be different. Persistent unlocks give you another reason to return.
There’s no native online multiplayer, but Steam Remote Play Together works a treat. Couch co-op with friends and a few drinks is where it really shines, particularly once tactical discussion becomes shouting at whoever missed the pass.
Add the great art style and gloriously stupid humour, and this is an easy recommendation.
No native online multiplayer, but that just means only one person in your friend group needs to add it to their library!
