Our take.
COP BASTARD gets straight to the point, usually by shooting through it. The gunfights barely stop, the NPC conversations are ridiculous, and every room seems contractually obliged to fill with sparks and smoke. It captures that old Hong Kong action-movie energy brilliantly: excessive gunfire, questionable decisions and absolutely nobody worrying about the furniture.
The gunplay is solid, keeping the relentless action enjoyable even when your approach amounts to “keep shooting until the room becomes quieter”. The graphic style suits it perfectly, too. You can switch off the VHS effect, but I left it on—the slightly grubby, video-rental look adds plenty of charm.
It’s gloriously over-the-top, mindless fun. Sometimes an evening spent making sparks fly is exactly what the backlog ordered.
Enemy variety is limited, and the suicide bombers feel more irritating than interesting, breaking up the action in a way that doesn’t quite fit. There’s no jump button, while a lean would make shooting from cover feel less like volunteering as a target. Some of the voice acting also strays beyond cheesy action-movie delivery into uncomfortable racial-stereotype territory.
