Cloudpunk

Years in the backlog. Four minutes played. Turns out the delivery driver was waiting for me.

THE MINI REVIEW

Our take.

Cloudpunk is a textbook backlog purchase. Deep sale? Bundle? Who remembers. It had been sitting in my library for years with precisely four minutes played. Don’t ask. Then I spotted Nivalis Nights and imposed an unreasonable rule: finish the game I already own before buying another set in the same universe. A dangerous precedent for this website. My goodness, I’m glad I did. Much of Cloudpunk involves driving through the city making deliveries, and whether you call it a game or an interactive story probably depends on what you’re looking for. For me, the world is the attraction. The atmosphere, the characters, the story - it all makes those journeys a delight. Sometimes you don’t need another complicated mechanic. You just need somewhere you want to spend an evening ... with your trusty dog, trapped in the AI of a car. Four minutes wasn’t giving it much of a chance. Several years wasn’t a particularly impressive delivery time, either.
THE CATCH
If making deliveries and soaking up a story sounds too quiet, this might stay in your backlog.
